Disguise photo analysis:
In the given photo, I can see a scribble with a nose that has been photoshopped onto it as well as facial features which are also made of scribbles. It also appears to have a body underneath the coat, I think that it may have a body under the coat because there are hands that have been photoshopped in that are coming out of the blanket however, the subject doesn't have any legs as Lucas Blalock has decided not to add the legs as it may look unappealing. This image is considered a portrait because the main subject may be made of a few objects put together but the photographer has implemented parts of a person using photoshop but, this image could also be considered a studio portrait as the portrait is taken indoors in a controlled environment.
I think that Lucas may have created this image by putting a few objects in a pile to create a body like structure, then he has taken a picture of the pile and brought it into photoshop and then he added a face like scribble on top of the pile. Next he cropped someone’s nose and arms out of a picture of someone and added them to the subject to make it look somewhat human so that it would still be considered a self portrait. I also noticed that there is a column and a plank of wood in the background, I believe that Lucas Blalock kept this element of the photo because he wanted to ensure that the background did not look unnatural and plain so he decided not to crop out the items in the background.
This image makes me feel somewhat curious about what the artist was thinking when creating this image, but it also makes me feel quite inspired because I sometimes struggle when looking for things to take photos of but Lucas Blalock saw a pile of items and decided to create an image instead of look for a picture like most people would do when trying to take photos. If I could ask the artist a few questions I would probably ask him:
How long did the editing process take?
What inspired you to make this piece?
Have you taken images like this before?
Some basic research has helped me to understand the picture more and the artists practice, I now know that the image was actually two images merged together, one of the images was a picture of a woman sitting on the chair and the other image was a photo of the pile of objects. I also understand now that Lucas Blalock makes photos based on concepts that he has been thinking about and that he uses the experimentation involved in making the picture to figure out the problems he is thinking about. This basic research has had a positive impact on the way that I see Lucas' work because now I understand the process that he goes through to make the images as well as his motives to make these images, but this research has actually made me see him as inspirational because I enjoy his work because it is supposed to be a kind of comedy and that he sees things others wouldn’t and works on editing an image for a long time, just to make people laugh. However there is also a sort o seriousness about his work as he uses it to get answers to what he needs to know.
In my opinion this image relates to the theme of disguise incredibly well. I think this because you can tell at a glance that this image contains elements of how people look but it isn’t revealing how anyones face, it is sort of a generalisation of how people look. It also gives the person in the image peace of mind because the image doesn’t actually show the persons full face whilst the artist still has a really intriguing and comedic image without anyone being uncomfortable.

With these images I was trying to create an image inspired by Lucas Blalock's work however i was unable to edit them in the way that he did because Im not very good at using photoshop but I wanted to try something new. If I were to do this task again I probably would have chosen the 'creative use of light' theme because I found this task really difficult because I tried to do something I wasn’t familiar with and I enjoy working with different kinds of lighting because it is one of the essentials for photography. I took quite a lot more photos than these ones but these were the ones that I liked the most because I thought that there looked more similar to lucas' work so I only chose the best images to be uploaded. I regret taking images that looked too similar to the artists work because I wanted to create similar images to his but in some of my images I had some that looked too close to the artists pictures. I believe that I didn’t achieve what I was capable of during this exam because I decided to try something more difficult so I believe that I could have done better. There is one way that I could have made this better, I spent too long trying to figure out how to edit them on photoshop when I could have tried to use other editing services to see if it was any easier to figure out how to edit the images in the same way that Lucas Blalock edited his images. When I first saw the image of 'Tessa Sitting' I thought it would be really simple and easy to create something similar to Lucas' work but I was sorely mistaken because even after searching the internet for upwards of 40 minutes I still couldn’t find something that helped me figure out how to edit in the same way that Blalock does.
