The theme of my work was constructed landscapes, I explored this theme for a while and decided that I didn’t really like the theme so I decided to make contrast the sub-theme so that the images seem less bland and more appealing to the eyes of the viewers. I have taken inspiration from artists such as Richard Prince.
My ideas progressed as I explored the theme and I think my feelings changed significantly because of how well my final pieces turned out. I explored threshold concept 1 by exploring the different type of portraiture and landscape photos from different time periods. I mainly used editing softwares but i experimented with photograms and hand made negatives. I decided that I disliked the other alternatives because using the editing software produced the best results and it felt more natural to me. I developed my investigation by looking into more artists and going to exhibitions to understand the process of photography. I have made decisions such as: Using editing software, using digital cameras and experimenting with different types of photography to explore how to get the best results. My ideas have become more narrowed so they are more simple and they look better overall as I honed my skills in this subject. My style of photography changed as I matured as a photographer and my knowledge of different ways of making photos has also expanded. I have exercised more creative habits as well as persistence as I failed and tried again many times over the course of my photography experience. I have found creating original and unique ideas to be a very difficult part of working as an artist/photographer because it feels as though a lot of the ideas that I get have already been made and executed better than I wanted to do it, however with a bit of persistence I have become significantly better at coming up with ideas for my work over time.
I have recorded my thought processes on my website so that my intentions are both clear and developed. I believe that my website reflects the amount. of thought and time I have devoted to studying photography, however I believe that I could have spent more time and effort on taking the actual photos as I feel that I haven’t got enough photos on my website.
My final peices depict landscapes with a hole or a filter over it and showing a darker yet more colourful version of the landscape.
I was hoping to create two different landscapes merged together, I didn’t quite achieve this however, I believe that my final pieces came out better than what I had envisioned. I think that I have explored the theme exceptionally well as I think that my website looks amazing as well as my work. I don’t think I would try anything else with this theme because I’m more than satisfied with how my work ended up looking. The landscapes mostly depict my local area that I see every day so they are personal to me.
I hope that viewers will look at the work and see that everything has two sides, beautiful or not.
In conclusion, I think that overall my work and images have turned out amazing, however there should have been more images taken so that I could make more constructed landscapes. This theme has opened my eyes to more types of artistry other than drawing, painting and etc. I think that my work had achieved its purpose and as such I believe that it is successful but I do believe that it could have been significantly better if I had spent more time on the work but I still think that it is very good. This task has helped me to see things that would normally go unseen to anyone who doesn’t study this. For example, whenever I see a film or a film poster I will notice there are a significant amount of constructed landscapes in most of the films that everyone sees.
